Meet Liza
Liza Frenette is an author and journalist. She's also a mom of one daughter, Jasmine, and she comes from a family of NINE children who all grew up in Tupper Lake, NY in the Adirondack Mountains. She has a ShihTzu named Topaz, who follows the legacies of Simon and Ming (Pictured here).
Growing Up
While growing up, Liza had many adventures in the woods and on the water, activities that she still enjoys today.
She's always loved reading and would lug home stacks of books from the library, including a lot of poetry. She'd even read at night under the covers with a flashlight! Her parents, Jim and Susanne Hull Frenette, also regularly ordered books for their children, so Liza would wait anxiously for the mailman to bring new books -ones they could keep! Liza had a paper route when she young, and saved her money and bought a desk at a second-hand store, announcing she was going to be a writer! She sent out her first manuscript when she was 11 years old.
Life as a Writer
Later, she went to college, where she earned a journalism degree from the State University of New York at Morrisville. She went on to write and take photographs for different newspapers throughout northern New York, and has also written for magazines, including Reader's Digest, Adirondack Life Magazine, Hudson Valley Magazine and Yankee Homes. She also earned a bachelor's degree in English with a journalism minor, and then a master's degree in English in the creative writing program - both from the University at Albany.
She currently writes for a monthly news magazine, NYSUT United, where she has interviewed and written about Pulitzer-prize winning author Frank McCourt, and young adult author Laurie Halse Anderson. Every summer, Liza works as a faculty member at the New York State Young Writer's Institute at Skidmore College, which is part of the New York State Writers Institute.

When Liza's Not Writing...
Liza likes to ski, kayak with Bill and the dogs, take long walks in the woods and swim, swim, swim.
With all these interests, Liza feels it's essential to fit a good nap into the day, especially in the hammock during summer!
Liza also really likes spending time with her friends, reading, tubing, waterparks with friends, cross-country skiing, good movies, going to plays, chocolate ice cream, and just hanging out. She really treasures her friendships, as well as time spent with her nieces and nephews.

Writers love to meet other authors and learn from them!
Liza meeting fellow writer, Andre Dubus III.
Frank McCourt was a writer and a person Liza very much admired. It was an honor to meet and interview him before he passed away in 2009.
And speaking of learning from other authors...
